William Lewis2 Sorrells ( Samuel Jackson1 ) was born April 4, 1842 in Lumpkin Co,Georgia and died March 15, 1921 in Washington Co, Kansas. He married (1) Sarah Harvin February 18, 1864 in Fleming Co, Kentucky, daughter of John Harvin and ?. She was born 1847 in Fleming Co, Kentucky and died April 27, 1885 Kansas. He married (2) Sarah M. Dixion Nov 11, 1885 in Fleming Co, Kentucky. She was born November 1843 in Kentucky.

William Lewis Sorrells and Sarah Harvin were married February 18, 1864 at the home of her father John Harvin in Fleming Co, Kentucky. Their marriage was preformed by Caleb T. Hill, Minister. At the time of their marriage William was a resident of Mason Co, Kentucky and Sarah was a resident of Fleming Co, Kentucky. It states on their marriage license that William was 22 years old and his occupation is listed as Waggoner ( wagoner ). It also states that Sarah was 17 years old and that this was the 1st marriage for both William and Sarah.

William L. Sorrells enlisted into the Civil War at Falmouth, Pendleton Co, Kentucky. He was in Company K, 18th Kentucky Union Calvalry. He applied for a pension on June 25, 1880. His widow applied on April 9, 1921. His Serviceman App # 1145073 and Cert # ( indicating he was approved for the pension ) is # 387786. Widow App # 1145073; Cert # 912172. His pension file states he married Sarah Harvin in Fleming 1864; Sarah M. Dixion on November 11, 1885. Children named in file; Mary M. b. May 20, 1866; John W. b. October 28, 1867; Henry M. b. November 24, 1869; Harvin b. October 15, 1875; Jeremiah b. November 28, 1877; Jennie b. February 11, 1881; Emery b. January 7, 1884; Sarah E. b. January 16, 1872' Aetna b. December 29, 1873; Ada b. December 14, 1882. I believe the requirements for naming children were: Alive; under 16. The pension file names his birth as c. 1842 in Lumpkin Co, Georgia. At one point it mentions " Gilmore County, Georgia " which I translate to be " Gilmer Co, Georgia.

Dear niece and family,
Glad to hear from you all. Once more this does not leave us very stout, but still able to go hunting. Do own work except washing, costing 40 cents per week.
We have not had any pictures since you seen us.
I have $255, Potatoes $1.60, wheat $1.13, corn 85 cents, hogs $9.00 per hundred live weight, sugar 8.00 per sack of 100 lbs., got coal house full, cob house full of cobs, let winter come.
Tell Sister to write when you see her.

Note: The above is a copied from a letter written by William Lewis Sorrells of Clifton Kansas, to his niece, Artie Marintha ( Rintha ) Sorrells Holt of Ellijay, Ga. William Lewis Sorrells was the Brother of Samuel David Sorrells, and was the Uncle of Arte Marintha Sorrells Holt. Marintha ( Rintha ) was married to Charles Holt who was the son of Jasper Holt who married Ada Sorrells, sister of Marintha. William Lewis was 74 years old when he wrote this letter.

Ada Marie Sorrells Holt is buried at the Mountain View Memorial Park Cemetery, Ashville, Buncombe Co, North Carolina. Ada is buried next to her daughter Florence Holt Wright who provided most of her care in her later years. Florence lived at Black Mountain North Carolina.
